Browning A5 problems The Dave McCracken Memorial Shotgun ForumApr 12, 2017 · Browning A-5 does not eject properly. 20 gauge Browning A-5 shotgun was recently serviced (cleaned) by gun shop, and since then does not eject spent shells (factory skeet/trap loads) regularly (30-50%). I have taken barrel, forearm, recoil spring, friction spring/bronze, and friction ring off and reassembled several times. Remove the forearm by pushing the barrel down with the butt of the gun resting on the floor or a solid object and unscrewing the magazine cap. After removing, notice the spring assembly so that you put back the pieces properly. Remove the spring assembly and clean. I like Rem Oil to clean and lubricate.The A5 Sweet Sixteen is far more satisfying. The model of shotgun that never needs "fixing" or adjusting hasn't been made yet. But, since Browning did not have an opportunity to make things right, your question is unanswerable. Pull the keeper out of the mag tube being carefull of the spring tension. swab the tube out real good, make sure the follower is slipping nice and free the length of the tube, put a little lube on it and reassemble. It sounds as though you may want to replace the recoil spring that fits around the magazine tube. Purchase a Grace A5 screwdriver set then remove the stock & replace the recoil spring inside the small tube.
